CORE Migration Launches Version 2.0 of the CORE Migration Workbench
New Version significantly improves productivity and lowers cost for Cognos PowerHouse® migration projects

Ottawa, Canada, June 2, 2004 - CORE Migration, the proven method for migrating mission-critical applications from legacy 4GL languages to modern computing platforms, today announced the launch of Version 2.0 of the CORE Migration Workbench for Cognos PowerHouse®. The new version of the Workbench significantly increases productivity, accelerates the project and lowers the cost of application migrations from PowerHouse to Microsoft .NET or Java.

Version 2.0 of the Workbench incorporates several major enhancements that were developed by leveraging the expertise that CORE has built through numerous large-scale PowerHouse migration projects. By utilizing the Workbench and the CORE Framework, the result of the migration is that in most cases, one line of PowerHouse code becomes one line of code in a newly migrated .NET or Java application. The result is less code that is forward engineered and an improvement in quality, which significantly reduces the manual migration component.

The .NET or Java code that is automatically generated from Version 2.0 of the Workbench now contains significantly fewer lines. This higher productivity from the Workbench results in faster completion of the entire migration and an overall lower cost, and equally as important, reduced maintenance over the life of the application.

  • Design Preservation Toolkit: A series of high-speed parsers that scans the legacy system data definitions and source code and creates the Intermediary API files that are loaded into the repository.
  • Repository: An object-oriented relational database and a library of Application Programming Interfaces (API) that validate incoming data and ensure the base application is consistently represented and stored in the form of objects, methods and business rules that make up the underlying application.
  • Forward Engineering Toolkit: An integrated application development toolkit, including the Framework, that uses the information in the repository to perform an assortment of tasks, including redocumentation, application and data definition navigation, and impact analysis as well as forward engineering to various target environments.
